Belly Dancers and Beer

We did it! We survived the famous Bolder Boulder, a scenic 10K through the streets of Boulder! Totally last minute we discovered no strollers were allowed in the race so we grabbed the back pack and headed out. It was a cool rainy day but really not too bad.

Petunia did great considering the last time she was in the pack she screamed her head off for 30 minutes. The gentle rocking put her to sleep for about the first two miles, although she didn’t look too comfy.

We got lots of comments about packing her 6.2 miles, most folks were impressed and Matt was even called out as “Super Dad”, I think carrying her that far he deserved the recognition.

This is what Petunia thought of the Bolder Boulder.

And what would the Bolder Boulder be without  belly dancers for entertainment?

Along with water and Gatorade there were plenty of stops for alcohol, you could pretty much take your pick.  Beer, beer and more beer or mimosas anyone? Folks were offering bloody Marys and even vodka shots.  We stopped at all of the above (just kidding).

Mother’s Day

Posted in mother's day, Running, Title 9K with tags , , on May 9, 2008 by erin

This is my first official Mother’s Day and instead of doing the usual brunch (at least that’s what my family always did-not that there is anything wrong with brunch!) I chose to get out and be active. Petunia and I will be doing the Mother’s Day Title 9K in beautiful Boulder CO. A couple of my friends (including ggsmama) will be joining me along with 1800 other mommies out to get some fresh air and good old fashioned exercise. I am looking forward to it. Happy Mother’s Day to all you fantastic mommy bloggers!

National Run a Mile Day

Thought I could post something interesting just to keep the spirit of this blog lighthearted (because of my last post). Although I think it’s okay to be down and sometimes it just feels nice to speak what is on my heart. A very wise person (Nona from Everyday Yogini) once told me, “We never know how happy we are unless we feel down once in a while.”
Today is National Run a Mile Day. So go on. Run/walk/skip/jump a mile or two. Or maybe just a stroll around the block. What ever suits your fancy. Your mind and body will thank you. I managed to get out and run here which really lifted my spirits. Happy Running.

Spring is that you?

Yesterday, I was finally able to get out on a run (jog). It was 50 degrees. Didn’t need the ever present hat-mittens-three-wind-proof-layers-scarf-boot-warmers, ect. So nice so warm. In fact Sunday the temp was 64 degrees! I smell spring in the air. And yet today, it’s freezing my tootsies off outside with the added bonus of bone-chillin’ winds. Oh, Spring when will you come?

Goal for 2008

Posted in Running with tags , on January 7, 2008 by erin

In an earlier post I misspoke. I said I am a runner. I should clarify. I am a jogger. Maybe soon that will turn into “runner” but I shouldn’t give myself more credit than I deserve. As I was jogging this weekend I thought of Bridget Jones when she talked about “her wobbly bits”. That’s what I felt as I was schlepping through snow, slush and ice. My wobbly bits were jiggling and it was making me quite uncomfortable. So now I am on a mission. I don’t want these wobbly bits any more. I am done with them. I was inspired (by Lulufabulous when she did this) to sign up for my own challenge, something to motivate me. And I found a goal I’m sure I can accomplish in 2008. It’s also through Nike Running. My goal is to run (jog) 1000km in 2008, that’s 621 miles for the year. Easy Peasy! I figure if I run (jog) 3X/wk at 3miles/run(jog) that’s…..9miles/week X 52 weeks/year= 468 miles for the year. That’s not 621 miles, but my goal is to work up to 6miles/run (jog) 3X/week so I KNOW I can make up the remaining 153 miles no prob. Who knows maybe by 2009, I can call myself a “runner”.

BTW I have found a great website for mapping runs. It’s http://www.mapmyrun.com/
I used it to map my run(jog) and found I am currently jogging 2.5 miles. Nike has a similar version but I think this one is more user friendly. So I have logged 7.5 miles for the year. I have some running(jogging)to do. Let the jogging begin.

*As a side note, I just realized in signing up for these challenges I am supposed to have the shoes that sync with my i-pod. Crap. Well, I hate Nike shoes, they hurt my feet so I won’t be syncing any runs. I’ll just know in my heart that I have accomplished my goal. Stupid Nike marketing campaign!

I am a…..RUNNER!

Posted in Running with tags on December 31, 2007 by erin

I wish. I used to be a runner. I was like Forest Gump. I ran and ran and ran until one day I just stopped (stopping had more to do with a back injury for me). Oh, how I LOVED running. SO MUCH. I wanted to move to Eugene, OR. I’ve heard they have tons of cedar running trails and I could become the female Prefontaine maybe even have a movie made of me, but not die in a tragic car accident at the age of 24. But sometime after college my back gave in to all my running (bad training on my part) and my running life changed into a non-running life so I started doing yoga.

Coming back from a disc injury took a few years but I believe because of yoga I am healed to almost 100%. My back has been feeling great and ever since I got my fancy new jogger I even contemplated running again. So….yesterday I ventured out on my first run in four years and…..it was awesome, so liberating. My hubby told me to take it easy as I was getting old. HA, whatev. Ok, maybe my knees and hip hurt (my hip, I am getting old) a bit but all in all I’m back to being a RUNNER 🙂 and I’m re-newing my subscription to Runner’s World. YES!

But this time I’m taking it slow…….
