bookworm meme

Posted in meme with tags , on February 27, 2008 by erin

I have always been a book worm. I would read two or three books a day when I was younger, granted they were usually 100 pages but still. Sweet Valley High was my favorite that and Nancy Drew. Those twins, both beautiful one smart one athletic and Nancy, well she was/is so wise for her age solving all those mysteries and managing to not be killed in the process.

I stopped reading for fun in college because, well, I was supposed to be reading my text books but I didn’t do that either. I picked up reading for fun once school was done and I haven’t stopped since. I wish I could say I read intellectual books about bettering myself or my country but that would just be a lie.

My husband does that sort of reading, Blink, The Tipping Point, Ayn Rand who wrote Atlas Shrugged. I have been known to pick up a few serious books here and there, I’ve read autobiographies by Lance Armstrong and Sydney Poitier, I’ve read books about parenting and babies, I’ve even read Cormack McCarthy’s All the Pretty Horses and liked it, it’s just usually my picks are lighthearted and somewhat humorous. I feel that life can get so serious that I need an escape to an imaginary land where I forget about my life and delve into the lives of the characters.

So Melissa tagged me for a bookworm meme and luckily for me I am actually reading a book that’s a bit harder than Shopaholic has a Baby, yes, I read that book (in about two days) talk about lighthearted! Anyway currently I am reading The Friday Night Knitting Club. It’s Steel Magnolias set in Manhattan, and what woman didn’t like Steel Magnolias!

So the rules are: Pick up the nearest book of 123 pages or more (no cheating!)
Okay, we have established that I am reading The Friday Night Knitting Club

And Find page 123: Ok, there.

Find the first five sentences: Done.

Post the next three sentences: “A second of thinking, “Thank God I won’t have to get an HIV test.” Now she just felt dirty. Darwin had never wanted to be just a good girl, but she didn’t really want to be bad either.

OOOOO, juicy!

Tag five people: This is always the hard part for me; most of the blogs I have read have already done this. Just in case you haven’t had the pleasure of participating in this meme, fellow bloggers, consider yourself tagged (and of course no pressure). I would like to tag my friend Lulu Fabulous because I know she has some great obscure book on her night stand right now (she reads intellectual books for the both of us). My friend, ggsmama, another intellectual. Maybe my UK friend and blog twin Agnes Miller and how about Robyn, who is a lawyer and I know will have something interesting beside her bed, maybe a law manual of sorts? And I’m not sure if she looks at this blog or not but a new blogger, Becca. Okay that’s five. Can’t wait to see what ya’ll are reading.

Valentines Meme

Posted in remembering, wedding day with tags , on February 13, 2008 by erin

In honor of Valentines Day I thought I would participate in the meme that’s going around. I enjoyed reading all of the other wedding tales so here’s my tale of love:

1. Where/How did you meet?
College. He noticed me first. I studied at the student union where he and his buddy would hang out and occasionally play pool. They dressed in suits and “met” with other students-what normal college student does that? I thought they were Mormons-nothing against Mormons, just had no interest in dating one. His friend asked me if I wanted to play pool with them. I turned them down because of the Mormon thing (turns out they were recruiting for a summer job) and I thought I was way too busy studying and had no time to play.

2. How long have you known each other?
This Valentines Day will mark 9 years together! Wow. That’s hard to believe

3. How long after you met did you start dating?
Few months-he had to convince me to date him…..

4. How long did you date before you were engaged?
3 years

5. How long was your engagement?
8 months-felt like forever!

6. How long have you been married?
In March we will have been married 7 years

7. What is your anniversary?
March 24th, 2001

8. How many people came to your wedding reception?
No idea, I’m bad with numbers 75-100?

12. How many people were in your bridal party?
3 total- two High School friends and one college friend

13. Are you still friends with them all?
yes, although I don’t talk to them as much as I would like

14. Did your spouse cry during the ceremony?
I have the sweetest photo of him looking up as I walked down the aisle, he does have a tear in his eye.

15. Most special moment of your wedding day?
besides the getting married part, seeing all my family and friends, leaving the reception and just being with my new husband

16. Any funny moments?
I so wanted the flower girl or ring bearer to do something funny as they walked down the aisle but they all performed perfectly.

17. Any big disasters?
Nothing major but the ushers girl friend got lost and he had to borrow my car to find her

18. Where did you go on your honeymoon?
Estes Park and Aspen

20. If you were to do your wedding over, what would you change?
Not a thing.

21. What side of the bed do you sleep on?
Either side

22. What size is your bed?
Queen

23. Greatest strength as a couple?
We agree on the major goals.
His strengths are my weakness and my strenghts his weakness.

24. Greatest challenge as a couple?
I would say him constantly on the cell phone when he is at home and he would say……nothing I’m perfect, just kidding…..too much time spent blogging, maybe?

25. Who literally pays the bills?
Paypal-it’s all automated!

26. What is your song?
Louis Armstrong- “What a Wonderful World”

27. What did you dance your first dance to?
same as above

28. Describe your wedding dress:
I am horrible at fashion, I don’t even know what material it was-satin? or something like it. I had it made because I knew exactly what I wanted and didn’t want to spend countless hours in the dressing room. It was simple and perfectly me.

29. What kind of flowers did you have at your wedding?
We used mostly Ivy and while lights, there were some white flowers too.

30. Are your wedding bands engraved?
No

Thanks Everyday Yogini for prompting me to do this, it was fun remembering and knowing I had the perfect day with the perfect man.

meme oh meme oh meme here I come.

So I’ve been tagged for a meme, after all it’s all about meme. Hee hee. This tag came from my very stylish friend Melissa:

How long have you been blogging?
I recently started this blog, just in November so I am a newbie and naive about how the whole blogging thing works, but I’m learing. It’s been fun but I need an adult to limit my time online. I get so wrapped up in others great stories or trying to type out something myself and the next thing I know it’s time to make dinner and I’m still in my pj’s.

What inspired you to start your blog, and who are your mentors?
Melissa actually inspired me. Funny thing as I was checking my gmail I noticed in the side bar that I could read a blog about a fashionable mommy of two so I thought I would check her out. I was hooked from the first sentence.
I really want to give my blog a cool unique layout but I don’t want to spend a fortune on one. I found a website where on occasion they are giving away free things you can put on your blog so maybe soon my blog will have a little pizazz.
Mentors, hmmmm in the blogging community I would have to say each blog I read gives me inspiration in their own way. Everyone is so creative, great writers and making it through life with style and humor. I can only aspire to be as good as these others blogs. Most of the blogs I read are written by moms so of course I can totally relate. I did happen upon a dad’s blog and oh, does he have quite the following. I have to say he’s pretty great.

Are you trying to make money on-line, or are you just doing it for fun?
So far just for fun. It’s a great record of my kiddos life. Something she can look back and read and say, “wow my mom is a wacko oh and I got my first tooth in January of 2008.” I don’t know how advertising works but hey if the opportunity arose, I wouldn’t turn it down. I hear of people making 6 figures to blog. What? 6 FIGURES, are you kidding me?

What 3 things do you love about being on-line?
1) being able to reach others without leaving my house
2) shop, shop, shop
3)looking up things when P is sick or is teething or in some developmental stage that I know nothing about or not sleeping or needs something super cute!

What 3 things do you struggle with on-line?
1) spending far too much time, it’s an addiction-instant gratification-
2) my blog and flickr don’t seem to get along
3) HTML-I don’t know a thing

So that’s the story, most of the other blogs I’ve read have already done this particular meme so I won’t be tagging anyone else today. I better get out there and make some more blogging friends.

Wow, people read my blog and I’ve been tagged

Posted in meme with tags , on December 6, 2007 by erin

I am new to blogging and pretty much know nothing about the workings of a blog. How did anyone find my blog (especially since I have changed my url 20x-I can’t decide what I wanted to go with but I think I have it now) and then decide to tag me? I enjoy reading other mom’s blogs who have been there done that and I can laugh with them.

Back to the tagging. My friend Latte Mommy tagged me and I’m supposed to write 7 things about myself and then tag 7 other blogs. I’m not sure my life is that interesting but here it goes.

*I haven’t eaten red meat for 12 years and just last week decided that I needed a change so now I’m a meat eater again! This will shock my family I am sure. 🙂

*When my kid(s) is/are in school I want to get back to school myself and study landscape design/architecture. I love digging in the dirt and being outside so I thought this would be the best of both worlds. I also want to take photography lessons oh and go to cooking school. Think I’ll have time for all this?

* I always hate my hair. If it’s short I want it long, if it’s long I want it short. I want it blonder, browner, curlier, straighter…you get the point. What’s wrong with me??

*I “adopted” a little girl in Guatemala and some day would love to go and meet her and her family.

*I love, love, love snowshoeing. It’s such a great experience and if you haven’t tried it you gotta do it. It’s good bonding time, a great work out and fun all rolled into one. What’s better than a crisp winter day, sun shinning, snow glistening, you are up in the mountains and it’s peaceful (no traffic, no sirens, no rude people). You can actually hear the breeze moving through the trees and it smells so nice, fresh. Ahhh wish I was there right now.

* I have a dog named Achilles, he is a weimeraner and a pain in the a**. But of course I love him. I have been begging my husband for another dog for 5 years now and he has yet to give in. I love dogs and I think Achilles needs a friend (a much smaller and mellower friend so I don’t have to entertain him everyday 🙂

*I’m getting addicted to blogging

Now I’m supposed to tag 7 people. Since I am new to blogging I don’t know 7 bloggers who haven’t been tagged several times. Most of the blogs I have read so far seem to be very experienced bloggers.

I will however have to tag my friend Lulu who is also a new blogger so I know she hasn’t been tagged yet.

Hope I didn’t bore you all.
