These are a few of my favorite things

I feel I should lighten the mood around this blog.

A couple of months ago I mentioned a few of my favorite baby things here. Well, it’s time once again for a few of my favorite things but this time the theme is “things you can drink”.

The mother ship has landed. Oh, boy has it ever and its gooooood. Mothership Wit Organic Wheat Beer is the best beer crafted on the face of this planet. It even ranked above my beloved 1554 and Fat Tire. Most women I know would prefer a mixed drink of sorts, an apple-tini or lemon drop or possibly a nice glass of red wine. Not me. I am a beer girl, give me an ice cold brew the darker the better and in the bottle please. I am a beer snob though, it can’t be Coors light, no must be a micro. brew.

I’ll give you all the razzle dazzle on this Mothership Wit: The mothership has elevated the zesty wit or white beers of Belgium with wheat malt, coriander and orange peel spicing-all organically grown. The alluring taste is a result of citrus and sour flavors held in perfect balance with a bright burst of carbonation. And certified by the Oregon Tilth. I don’t think New Belgium beer is available everywhere but if you are lucky enough to have it in your town run to the nearest liquor store and get some! And if you are ever in the beautiful college town where this beer is brewed, check out the brewery. It is simply amazing. And is quite green, not as in color but as in production.

For my second favorite drinking item…da ta da da…..Izze. I don’t drink soda, pop, coke, sodapop whatever you call it in your neck of the woods. I just stopped and now it doesn’t appeal to me, but on a hot summer day I want a refreshing bubbly drink. That’s when I discovered Izze Sparkling Juice. Geeze I sound like a commercial. I assure you no commercial here, just stuff I love. Izze is made with 70% fruit juice and a splash of sparkling water made with no refined sugars, no caffeine, no preservatives, and no artificial colors or flavors. Blackberry is my fav. flav. not to be confused with Flavor Fav., his show I do not like. Plus, who doesn’t like the word Izze.

Go out and try these “things you can drink”. I hope I cheered you all up after that last post. Happy weeks end.

Tea

I love tea. I’m always excited when the weather cools a bit and I can make a steaming pot of tea, curl up on the couch with a great book and read all day. Who am I kidding? Reading all day only happens in my dreams these days, but every once in a while I do get to enjoy a cup of hot tea.

I like the act of making tea. I don’t put H2O in a mug and “zap” it. I love the lengthy process of filling the tea kettle, heating it on the stove, filling my little tea pot (with it’s cute little tea cozy) and steeping the tea to perfection. Plus, I have the perfect tea mugs we always purchase from Canadian Tire when we visit. It has now become a tradition for us to collect these mugs.

Tea makes you feel healthy, doesn’t it? I always feel healthy when I have a “spot of tea”. Like I’m filling my body with goodness. I don’t know why I’ve grown to like tea so, maybe it’s the Canadian in me (can you be part Canadian when your mum was born there?)

My favorite brand is Republic of Tea, favorite flav. is Ginseng Peppermint.

My second favorite is Aveda tea.
Once I tasted this I fell head over heals.
This is good tea, so sweet and minty. So yum!

If you are ever in Boulder, CO I highly suggest a tour of Celestial Seasonings. It’s free and really cool, even the kids would like it. And go into the mint room, I guarantee your nose will be clear for a year after that. You can also buy Celestial Seasonings Tea for a lot less at their plant.

These are a few of my favorite things….

“When the dog bites, when the bees stings, when I’m feeling sad. I simply remember my favorite things and then I don’t feel so baaaaaad.” Okay, I’ll stop singing, I’m sure your ears are bleeding.

I haven’t been a mom for long but I have already found some great baby things I couldn’t live without.

First, are Smartwool socks for kids (they have sizes 0-3 months and up) Why these socks you ask? They are the only socks I have found to stay on Pear’s feet and the only socks that actually keep her feet warm in the cold Colorado winter (well, technically it’s still fall). They make cute warm hats too. Love the smartwool.

Second, are bibs made by Mimi the Sardine. These bibs are so awesome! I was tired of Pear’s shirt getting completely soaked by the time we finished a meal. She’s a really messy eater as I imagine most new eaters are. These bibs are made in San Francisco, are water and soil resistant (but you can machine wash them), the fabrics are produced in accordance with strict environmental laws and are Oeko-Tex certified, plus they are super cute, fit around Pear’s (slightly chubby) neck and keep her entire shirt clean. They are a little pricey for bibs (about $15/bib) but will last forever! They have other products too like aprons and lunch bags. Love the mimi.

Third, the the Tripp Trap High Chair made by Stokke. I like the concept behind the design of this chair. It made so much sense to me. Plus, it actually looks nice in your house and Pear will be able to use it throughout her childhood and I am envisioning her using it as a desk chair when she is in school.

Lastly, are these breathable bumpers from Breathable Baby. I found them at Target. Pear stuffs her face against the side of the crib when she sleeps and being the paranoid mother I am (well, at least about sleeping/SIDS) I was so afraid she would suffocate. So found these and have not worried since.

One more, this is for the mommies. I have to give a shout out to the exercise class I attend a few times a week. This class has helped me keep my sanity while being a stay at home mom. The lady who started the class used to train movie stars in LA and NY. She created an exercise class that meets in the local park and you bring your stroller (and the kid(s). What a great concept. You get a wonderful workout (it kicks my a** every time) and your kid gets to spend time outside. It does the both of you good.

Well, like I said I’m a new mom so this is the list for now. I’ll probably add more as Pear grows and I find more great “must haves”
